Republic Bank Exodus Steel Orchestra - Mas Presentation 2026
Republic Bank Exodus Steel Orchestra's, ExoMas Band presents "Sailors in Denim".
Once again, we're paying homage to one of the most known and beloved of Trinidad Carnival Characters, the Sailor Mas, which was introduced in the 1880s when British, French and American naval ships came to Trinidad.
Join us on the streets of Port of Spain on Carnival Monday and Tuesday as we compete in the parade of the bands!
ALL costume packages include Monday wear, lunch, refreshments and drinks.
Section 1:
"Stone & Flow"
Designed by: Kevon Gareth Foderingham
Inspired by: The Pont du Gard
This section translates the monumental beauty of the Pont du Gard into wearable architecture. The costumes echo the aqueduct’s soaring arches and enduring stone, reimagined through sculpted denim forms. Indigo tones flow like water beneath stone, while placards carried by masqueraders transform the road into a living bridge. "Stone & Flow" honors both the strength of Roman engineering and the timeless foundations from which denim’s story begins.

"Temple Threads"
Designed by: Alicia Buckmire, Asher Bain, Denée Thomas,
Jonathan Villaroel and Jordan Smith
Inspired by: The Maison Carrée
In this section, the designers reimagine the Maison Carrée not as a static monument but as a living canvas of transformation.
The design draws on the temple’s perfect proportions and classical geometry, translated into squares and circles stitched together in patchwork. Frayed edges and layered panels introduce movement, symbolizing the passage of time and the resilience of materials upcycled and thus reborn.

"Fountains of Nîmes"
Designed by: Kevon Gareth Foderingham
Inspired by: The Jardins de la Fontaine
Kevon Gareth Foderingham brings the Jardins de la Fontaine to life through a costume that merges natural beauty with maritime flair. The expansive floral skirt evokes the lush blooms and waterside gardens of Nîmes, while the denim bodice and sailor’s cap recall the fountain’s role as both a source of life and a symbol of passage. Together, the look captures the structured yet fluid duality of a fountain.

Section 4:
"Arena Soul"
Designed by: Walda George-Waithe
Inspired by: The bullfighting arenas of Nîmes
Walda George-Waithe channels the fierce spectacle of the Arènes de Nîmes into a costume that fuses naval resilience with arena drama. Denim flares are embellished with sailor’s rope, recalling both ship riggings and gladiatorial bindings, while bold shoulder armor and winged forms invoke strength and defiance. The sweeping red cape is a matador’s tool and a masqueraders banner! Here, denim becomes armor and performance alike, transforming the arena into a stage of courage and cultural pride.

Designed by: Walda George-Waithe
Inspired by: The global voyage of denim and indigo dye
This section breathes new life into the voyage of indigo, that gave denim its hue. The costume conjures images of seafarers, ports, and the global threads woven through maritime trade. It evokes a playful sailor aesthetic: oversized tops, bucket hats like ship sails in the wind, and bold red neckerchiefs mirroring signal flags at sea.

Section 6:
"Deck & Duty"
Designed by: Walda George-Waithe
Inspired by: Traditional Naval Uniforms
We close the presentation with a salute to the style of naval life, reimagined fashion-forward finesse. Drawing from 19th-century sailor uniforms, this section blends historical reference with Caribbean flair and flirtation. Costumes are embellished with anchor motifs, exaggerated naval accessories, and our hats that echo ship portholes, topped off with and nautical wheel jewelry. The crisp white look balances strength with cheeky charm. Each element plays with the idea of duty not just as discipline, but as expression.
